Heidi & Lewis at Mirfield Monastery

Heidi and Lewis chose Mirfield Monastery for its unusual setting and grounds. Their letters spoke about choosing each other through the difficult days as well as the good ones. With their families gathered for the ceremony, those promises felt especially personal.

A wedding at Mirfield Monastery

The church was a remarkable setting, with its dome and stonework above the congregation. Heidi and Lewis had read each other’s letters separately that morning; the ceremony brought them together to make their promises.

They had wanted both of us there to film. Being with each of them during the preparations meant they could later share the parts of the morning they had spent apart.

Their family and friends

Heidi’s dad Bren, her maids of honour, Lewis and best man Hassan spoke at the reception. The stories were affectionate, with plenty of familiar teasing and a clear sense of how much the couple meant to the people around them.

The monastery grounds gave them a little time together before the evening. Lorna Adams’s piano music was part of the day, and later their friends gathered around the dance floor. The setting was distinctive; the warmth came from the people they had invited.
