A first date on St Patrick’s Day
Leanne & John

Leanne’s father remembered her grandmother asking whether she had found a nice boyfriend yet. At Newton House Barns, he could finally tell the whole room about that boyfriend — now her husband. Their first date had been on St Patrick’s Day, a fitting detail for a grandmother who came from Ireland.
The garden ceremony
Leanne and John married outside, beneath the garden gazebo, with the Vyne String Quartet playing nearby. The trees surrounded their rows of guests, and the sunshine caught Leanne’s veil as they exchanged rings.
Afterwards came confetti and a long run of congratulations. We like to stay with that part of a wedding: people greeting the couple, friends catching up and children finding their own entertainment.
A welcome into the family
Leanne’s father spoke about the new beginning her arrival had brought him, and the new beginning she and John were making together. His pride in her was easy to hear.
The best man had a less restrained welcome for John, mixing affection with a fair amount of teasing. He also acknowledged the time John spent away for work and the patience their relationship had needed. Both kinds of speech belong in the film.
An afternoon at Newton House Barns
Guests stayed in the gardens for drinks and lawn games before moving into the barn. By the first dance, the room was ready to join them, and the evening became a cheerful, busy gathering.
Leanne and John found us through Newton House Barns and wanted us to film without taking over. Their highlights keep the garden ceremony, family words and evening together; their longer film gives them more time with the people they invited.
