Lydia and Danny’s wedding at Holmfirth Vineyard had plenty of laughter, but their promises to each other were wonderfully direct. They spoke about encouragement, growing together and always being each other’s person. Lydia also promised to answer to Danny’s increasingly unusual nicknames. A useful addition to any marriage contract.
Vows with a view
The ceremony brought their guests together beneath a floral arch, with the hills beyond the windows. Danny promised to hold Lydia’s hand through the difficult times; Lydia promised to support him, believe in him and laugh with him. There were tears among the guests, and plenty of smiles between the two of them.
Earlier, they had exchanged written words while getting ready. Keeping those alongside the ceremony in the film lets them hear the anticipation as well as the promises they made in front of everyone.
The people who know them best
One speech described Danny’s ability to walk into a room of strangers and have everyone talking as though they had known him for years. Watching him with their guests, it was easy to see what the speaker meant. Danny spoke about Lydia’s drive and the way she puts other people first.
Lydia’s sister had a slightly different claim to make: the great moment when Lydia met her best friend had happened when she met her sister. The teasing sat comfortably alongside the affection. We want the laughter and the catch in someone’s voice to stay together in a film, just as they did in the room.
Above the Holme Valley
Holmfirth Vineyard gave us open views across West Yorkshire and time for Lydia and Danny to wander together between the celebrations. Pink and white smoke drifted around them outdoors; back inside, live saxophone and a roomful of guests took over.
The views at Holmfirth Vineyard were beautiful. Just as memorable were the family hugs, the nicknames and Danny’s very full room of friends. It was lovely to spend the day among them.
