Luke’s first meeting with Abby’s family was memorable for reasons her dad might rather have forgotten. Eight years later, he was telling the story at their wedding. The laughter at Stallingborough Grange came easily, but his gratitude was just as clear: to the family who had welcomed him, and to Abby for the life they shared.
Already part of the family
Abby’s dad said the official welcome changed very little: Luke had been part of the family from the beginning. He spoke with pride about his daughter and wished them happiness together.
Luke thanked both families for their support, then told Abby how much she meant to him and their children. He liked to joke that she was the lucky one, but admitted he had known for years that it was the other way round.
Room for laughter at Stallingborough Grange
Their ceremony had its own little moments of laughter. The gardens gave them time together afterwards, and Abby was smiling through the portraits and the speeches.
By evening, their friends were singing and dancing with very little restraint. That easy humour is part of what we love about this film: sincere words from a family who were also very happy to enjoy themselves.
