From a night out at eighteen to ‘Simply the Best’

Amy & Andrew

Amy & Andrew at St Giles Church & Healing Manor

Amy and Andrew first met on a night out when they were 18. They found each other again at 27. At their wedding, that bit of history came through in the speeches, but so did the life they have made since: Andrew spoke about Amy’s place in his daughter Clementine’s life, and best man Mike remembered the moment he realised his friend had fallen for her.

A wedding at St Giles Church, Scartho

Amy got ready at her mum’s house, surrounded by her bridesmaids and flower girls. She looked stunning in her dress. Andrew prepared at home before they met at St Giles Church in Scartho for a marriage service that was personal to them without needing to be showy.

Their vows, the exchange of rings and the words spoken over them have a real place in the film. There was confetti outside the church, then a short journey to Healing Manor for the reception. James and Merika Green photographed the day; they are lovely people to work alongside, and everyone had room to enjoy the wedding without feeling directed through it.

The years between 18 and 27

The speeches at Healing Manor filled in the story. Andrew recalled meeting Amy when they were 18, then seeing her again nine years later. He thanked her for welcoming his daughter Clementine and caring for her as part of their family.

Amy’s father David spoke about her kindness and welcomed Andrew into the family. Mike brought the laughter: Andrew had been so keen to see Amy that he nearly missed a long-overdue catch-up with his best man. Mike had seen a photograph of them together and could tell from Amy’s smile that the feeling went both ways. Those voices run through our edit, giving the images the history behind them.

A first dance everyone could sing

The Mardy Johnny Depps played ‘Simply the Best’ for Amy and Andrew’s first dance. They are a hugely talented local act with a wide repertoire, and they knew how to bring the room with them. Guests sang along, then kept the dance floor lively through the evening.

Amy and Andrew are down-to-earth people, and the day felt like them: a church ceremony, family stories told properly, then a great band and a room ready to join in. We wanted the film to hold all of that together, especially the words that explain why everyone was so happy to be there.
