Two teachers, one autumn wedding

Georgina once joked that nothing could be more boring than dating a teacher. Then she met James. Their Doddington Hall wedding had pumpkins, lanterns and celestial details, but the speeches brought us back to the classroom where their relationship began — and to the family and friends who had watched it grow.

A Thursday evening proposal

James had planned to propose on Halloween, Georgina’s favourite day. A delayed ring changed that plan, so he asked her at home after school on a Thursday instead, while she was getting on with the household jobs.

It was still three years to the day since he had first asked her out. The date mattered, even if the kitchen had replaced his original setting.

Autumn at Doddington Hall

Doddington Hall sat between their families in Grimsby and Woodhall Spa. They loved its history, and their wedding fell during pumpkin week. Autumn colour, lanterns and the Coach House suited what they had in mind.

A brief shower and mist came through the grounds during the day. There were still portraits outside, as well as guests gathering indoors and catching up over the tables.

Letters and family voices

Their personal letters gave us words from the morning to carry into the film. Later, Georgina’s dad Steve, James and best man Josh spoke about the couple, their support for each other and the families they had brought together.

Their letters were tender, the speeches much less restrained. We loved having that mix to work with, among the autumn colours they had chosen Doddington Hall for.
