Laura & Hassan at Rise Hall

Laura and Hassan’s wedding at Rise Hall brought two families together after years of building a life across continents. They met in Bahrain after Laura moved there from the UK, and Hassan’s military deployments meant they had learned how to stay close across distance. On 9 August 2024, everyone they loved was finally in the same room.

A relationship built across distance

Laura and Hassan met in Bahrain after Laura moved there from the UK. Their relationship grew across different cultures and family histories, while Hassan’s military deployments meant he could be away three times a year. The distance was difficult, but it made them stronger and taught them how deliberately they wanted to build a life together.

Their wedding was a chance to bring those worlds together. Laura’s family and Hassan’s family travelled to Rise Hall to share the day, with the celebration shaped by warmth, respect and the happiness of finally being gathered together.

The proposal that waited for Hassan to come home

Hassan had planned to propose during a meal with Laura and her parents in Bahrain, but his return from deployment was delayed by the earthquake in Syria. Once he was home, he presented the evening as a belated Valentine’s celebration. Rose petals, fairy lights and candles were waiting, followed by a dessert carrying the question: ‘Will you marry me?’

Rise Hall, chosen from thousands of miles away

Laura’s parents visited venues on the couple’s behalf and shared them over video calls. Rise Hall stood out even through a screen because it gave both families space to stay together and offered the scale and atmosphere they had hoped for. Seeing it in person confirmed the choice.

The house gave the film an elegant setting, but the day remained personal. A celebrant led the ceremony, Laura and Hassan exchanged their own vows, and the speeches allowed both families to speak directly to the couple.

The first dance

Laura is a dance teacher, so the first dance was never going to be an afterthought. She and Hassan performed a proper routine, and the room watched them move with the confidence and joy of two people who had prepared something together. It became the natural climax of the highlights film.

Before that moment, the speeches had already brought the family story into the open: Laura’s father Michael, Hassan, his brother Zaid and Laura’s best friend and maid of honour Sophie each gave the day a different voice. The dance gathered all of that feeling into one final, dazzling release.

Filming Laura and Hassan at Rise Hall

Rise Hall gives a wedding film a strong sense of place through its rooms, grounds and changing light. For Laura and Hassan, it also held something more significant: two families who had travelled a long way to share one celebration.

The finished film follows that movement from private vows and touching speeches to the first dance. It remembers the elegance of Rise Hall, but its centre is the couple and the family gathering they had worked so hard to make possible.
