Steph & Miles at Healing Manor

Steph and Miles married at Healing Manor on 18 July 2025, sixteen years after they got together. Their daughter was a flower girl. When Miles stood up to speak, he went back to the night they first met, before the Myspace friend request and the years in which they made a home together.

The night they met

Miles said he was introduced to Steph at the Spider’s Web just as he was leaving. He turned to say goodbye and walked straight into a table. When he got home, he went on Myspace and found her there.

Marriage had been a decision they made together, too. They talked it through and chose a ring with their daughter. They had already built a family; the wedding was a chance to have everyone they loved in one place to celebrate it.

A wedding close to home at Healing Manor

They chose Healing Manor partly because most of their guests would not have far to travel. Steph loved the barn, the adjoining reception room and the grounds. They could spend the whole day there, from getting ready to the ceremony and evening party.

After the ceremony, the grounds and surrounding fields gave us space to film Steph and Miles together. Back inside, there was just as much to keep our cameras on: family catching up, Sam Simmons playing, the speeches and the reactions around the tables.

Miles’s speech

Miles thanked everyone for coming, then joked about the cost of getting them all there and the relief of being finished with wedding planning. Later he turned to Steph. He thanked her for the home they had made, for always looking after other people and for being such a wonderful mother to their daughter. He gave their little flower girl a mention of her own, to a round of applause.

Steph’s dad Paul welcomed Miles into the family, and best man James brought his own jokes. Those voices, and the way the room answered them, are some of the things Steph had especially wanted to be able to hear again.

Another wedding in the family

We had filmed Miles’s brother’s wedding before. Steph and Miles had seen that film, and Miles remembered feeling at ease with us while he got ready that morning, despite his nerves. It was lovely to be asked back.

For their film we kept the spoken moments close to the pictures: the ceremony in the barn, their daughter among the wedding party, the walk outside, the speeches and everyone around the dance floor. These are the people and details they will recognise when they watch it back.
